Abstract

The vapour phase catalytic hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone is an important industrial reaction to produce the two intermediates, caprolactam and adipic acid. These two monomers are mainly used to manufacture Nylon-6 and Nylon-6,6 respectively. This presentation illustrates a novel approach of using a single step process to produce cyclohexanone as an emerging new technology against the traditional two-step process. It also details the current status of cyclohexanone in the world market, the design and development of newer catalytic materialsbeing used in the production of cyclohexanone and its operational system
