Abstract

The fluoride content of vegetation is used in the diagnosis of plant injury, in monitoring sources of pollution and as an air quality standard. However, this use depends upon the accurate quantitative determination of fluoride in plant material. In this review emphasis is placed on techniques which are suitable for rapid, routine determinations. Sections dealing with the treatment of samples before analysis, sample preparation, separation of fluoride from interfering radicals, the determination of fluoride in solution and rapid methods using the fluoride ion-selective electrode are included. Applications of various methods to routine analysis are discussed.
