Abstract
In developing countries, mobilisation of capital to meet power and energy infrastructure needs is often executed to facilitate short term goals without adequate considerations for the human and natural environment. Here we outline, using an example, how such unbalanced approaches can result in the creating of social traps for nearby communities. The study therefore highlights some of the challenges faced by the poor, when policies and laws are not followed leading to environmental and human health impact.
