Abstract

Poverty maps are now being implemented by various organizations, like the World Bank, Consultative Group for International Agriculture Research - Consortium for Spatial Information and many others, n order to better handle poverty and food insecurity in different parts of the globe. In such maps, there is a need for spatial datasets of administrative boundaries, road network and rivers. They can be used for direct input into poverty assessment, visualization purposes and presentation. Poverty maps are also important for focusing on pockets of poverty that are spatially distributed within countries and focus efforts accordingly. Poverty maps are effective tools for pinpointing investment areas and especially those areas that need attention the most.
